On Friday November 11th at 7pm The Melvin Gallery proudly presents:”Trophies From A Deep Space Death Race”. The long awaited solo show of Atlanta artist Shawn Knight! Although each part is an object unto itself, Shawn Knight’s art of assemblage manages to make the original form and function of its individual pieces secondary to his greater design. His varied assemblage sculptures all share a common thread of intensity, eccentricity, and interest. In this series, “Trophies from a Deep Space Death Race,” Shawn Knight has focused on mounted sculptures ranging from Mind Melting Death-Rays to Galactic Taxidermy. At first glance, the work has an overall rigid yet organic feel, but as you look deeper, you are drawn into the details of his varied pieces (some of which still buzz, spin or illuminate from their original purposing). It is a veritable visual smorgasbord that reflects the electricity and imagination of its creator, Assemblage Artist, Shawn Knight. For your listening pleasure, DJ El Prez of The Rare Form Crew will serve up a delicious old school soundtrack for dinner. Followed by desert… a special live performance by none other than ATL’s own Social Espionage. The Melvin Gallery is located at 684 John Wesley Dobbs Avenue in the Old 4th Ward on the Belt line.
